MBP + VR mini scratch disk setup
My setup is a MacBook Pro with 5400 rpm internal drive and a 1TB Caldigit VR mini on eSata (Caldigit expressport card) for use with PP CS4. Premiere files are split across the drives in the following way currently:
- internal: .prproj files, photos
- VR mini: all PP scratch items, raw video, music, sound clips, and items rendered with media encoder.
How close is this to what you consider best practice?
I think photos may be better located on the VR mini. If I do that, I’ll want to keep photos synced on both the internal and mini in order to have access to them for non-PP use without the mini and for safety. But then when I backup the drives, I’ll have to figure out how to not back up the photos from one of the drives (using carbon copy cloner currently) to avoid using 2x photo space on the backup drive. Actually music is the same situation. How do others using one external disk handle photos and music?
I have similar questions regarding Encore and After Effects.
Thanks,
