  • MB Extreme for audio post – HD to DVI D, SD to analog ?

Posted by Peter Gruden on February 18, 2007 at 7:40 pm

I need to build a setup for audio post.
MB Extreme would play 1080i HD video to DVID/HDMI full HD display, and simultaneously downconvwerted SD video to an analog display, for synchronization control.

Uncompressed video will not be used, only m-jpeg on Windows, or photo jpeg/DVCPRO HD on Intel Mac. I have both computer platforms available and will choose the one that does a better job.
Much of the subject is covered in BM technical note, but only for HD Pro 4:4:4 card, not for MB Extreme.

    thanks,
    Peter

Mjpeg needs CPU power for decompressing so calculate this for your average audio post pro workflow how many CPU power need your plugins or how many chanells you will have. In Windows if DL is only audio input Nuendo always raves that you dont have asio input(DL dont support asio input out of PPro). Nuendo 3 is only one supporting this scenario. (Nuendo 2 dont support video out thru DL hardware).
I hope this little helps you. I have Nuendo 2 and 3 and DL HD Extreme.

    PS
Zagreb is very near you….I have seen your studio backdoor entrance…nice work.
If you need any further help I will be glad to help you.
    Best regards

I’m using Decklink SP with Nuendo and it works fine (with UAD). As far as I could see on IBC hd jpeg does not demand so much power from cpu.
However, you are right, it is probably not a good idea to play HD video using the audio computer with large projects, so I’ll keep the Decklink SP for smaller SD projects and put an Aja LHe into Mac Pro with Virtual VTR for film work.

    Peter
