  • MAX Number of keyframes/masks?

    Hi all,

I have a HUGE rotoscoping job. Some 26 masks with a key fame at each and every frame over 11 seconds (all in 1080 HD @ 23.98fps.) Right now AE is crashing every time I open this file. I have been through most of the trouble shooting tips on Adobe’s site (particularly the Open GL stuff) and run a hardware test (I’m on a Mac PPC G5 2.7GHz, 4GB RAM with an ATI X800 XT card). I am working off an external LaCie 250 GB drive (other files on this drive work fine.)

If I disable the preview (with CAPS Lock) I can move around in the file, but as soon as I try display the file, it crashes. If I try render out what I have rotoscoped the APP crashes with an “Out Of Memory while compressing frame “error.

So do I have too many masks? Or is there possibly another solution/problem.

Please help…weeks of work and still much to do!

    Nasty.

Sorry, I can’t offer a fix, just a workaround: open with Caps Lock, set all masks to “none” except for one mask. Switch off Caps Lock, do the roto, then switch the mask to “none”, and move on to the next mask, making it visible and doing the roto.

It ain’t pretty, but it might get you home.

can you pre-comp and output individual full res proxies for each rotoshape?
Output the 26 individually with alpha channels — then comp them all together — then set it to an alpha matte?
It might take a little while, and it’ll be semi-unalterable, but you can always paint more shape….

Thanks guys. What I have found is that a previous Auto-saved version works fine (Auto Save now my standard working method!) What I Plan to do is output an ALPHA version up to that point in time (3s10f) and then duplicate the file, get rid of the keyframes up to that point, get another 3secs done and repeat the process. Hopefully I’ll hobble home using this method.

Any answer to the question of a MAXIMUM number of masks/key frames though? Is the file corrupt or have I bumped into a limit with AE7?
