  • Max Image Size In AE ?

i have an HD comp with a 12,000 x 12,0000 PSD image and the render craps out everytime with an error msg stating that AE cant process that size of an image.

in the AE help section, it states that AE can process images up to 30,000 x 30,000 so i dunno why i am getting this error. the frame wont even refresh at Best quality.

WTF ?!?!?! can anyone shed some light on this?

i am on a G5 Quad, 4.5 GB of RAM, rendering using Nucleo.

    thank you.

What exactly does your error message say during our render? At first I thought this might be a lack of RAM problem, but seeing that you have 4.5 GB I don’t know. You might want to try going into the secret prefs and making AE flush your RAM cache every couple frames, maybe that could help. If you dont know what I mean by secret preferences, search that archives.
As for the frame not refreshing at best quality, I would recommend using setting up a region of interest so that AE doe’s not have to process the whole area. This way at least you can see portions of the image at full quality.

I’ve had the same issues… only I was using a 4000 x 4000 layer. After a day of blaming my mouse, I realised that my renders were finishing successfully at 8bit, but would fail every time at 32bit. After resizing the 4000×4000 pic to about 1500×1500 it finally rendered in 32bit. I wish there was a breakdown on this available somewhere to avoid these problems – such as:
At 8-bit, After Effects can process 32000×32000 images, but without any effects being applied to them.
At 32-bit After Effects can process 2000×2000 images, including upto 5 effects….

    …etc etc..
