Mavericks OSX 10.9 Upgrade Issue with CUDA 5.5.28 in Davinci Resolve 10

The gtx285 is a card from 3 (4 if you count the new MacPro) generations ago. Several lifetimes in the lightning Fast gpu development cycle. The FX 4800 is from 2008. Guys, I’m not saying you’re out of date…. But I wouldn’t hold my breath for driver support on those puppies in OS X 10.9. Not to mention that neither of those cards have much gpu ram, and so even if they could run CUDA, they certainly wouldn’t run resolve 10 very stably.
You’ve got two choices: 1) find a working/stable config and lock your system down into turnkey solution. (There are still running avids using legacy hardware and OS 9!) I’d look at 10.8.4/5 and resolve 9 as the highest. Or… 2) upgrade your gpu.
This is the nature of the technology beast, it keeps rolling on with or without you.

So Juan, I guess that I have to agree with your assessment of the Nvidia Quadro FX 4800 card for Mac being obsolete if there is no longer any support for it. However, the burning question remains, “Why is Nvidia still selling it?”

Sure did, and it took me to an Amazon site (see link below) that advertised the unit as being compatible with Mac OS 10.5.7 and later. Reading this ad as a potential buyer, I would expect that all aspects of the card should work with Mac OS 10.9 including the “Cuda Accelerator” which is now noticeably absent from my Premiere Pro CC software.

Well that amazon page will need to have specs amended to say “Compatible with Mac OS 10.5.7 or Later and Boot Camp*
*CUDA only compatible with OS 10.5.7 – 10.8.5”
It had a good run there, through 4 different big cats… but it just couldn’t handle the waves. 😉

Juan, you are being dense and wasting perfectly good white space by hypothetically declaring the GTX 285 to not be able to run Davinci well and- since it is 3-4 generations old- being good for nothing, thereby insinuating that those of us upset over CUDA support being completely erased, are in fact, crying a river of obsolete tears.
Let me explain why you should sit down:
1. The GTX 285 as a standalone GUI AND compute card runs Davinci 9 and 10 respectively, even with 2.5k BMCC RAW footage and 2 nodes. 5dmkII/III footage at 1080p can easily have 4 nodes (I’m not talking about NR) and have 24 fps playback.
2. Since this was a major card to actually have original MAC support, thousands of pro Mac users bought this card and still use it, enjoying PPro and Photoshop support (remember NVIDIA 4xx and 5xx did not have Mac cards unless you want to flash them or build a hackintosh).
3. Those of us who have newer cards can still use the GTX 285 as a GUI and appreciate the added mathematical support it offers when teamed up with newer cards, especially since Davinci 10 free allows for more than 1 GPU to be used now.
4. When projects are being finished perfectly without a hitch and then after an update stop working, the logical response is NOT “Oh well, I should go out and throw my hard-earned money at the newest $600 7xx card because I never knew what I was missing!!”
No, the logical answer is, “Why should a perfectly good piece of hardware that is perfectly powerful enough for non 4k work suddenly stop working?”

Same issue with Resolve 10 here only I run OSX10.8.5
NVIDIA Quadro 4000
CUDA v5.5.25 now upgrading to 8.16.74.310… still not working!After startup iI get:
No CUDA Acceleration Hardware Detected! Please quit Resolve and install a CUDA accelerated GPU card or update your CUDA software driver to the latest version before continuing to use Resolve. CUDA driver updates can be done from the Mac System Preferences.
