By default, when you step in a matte key clip, your key is locked. I know that there is a trick to unlock it and put the effect on it through clip board method.

But I have a friend whose setting is somehow in a way that the matte key’s key layer is always unlocked to start with. He even didn’t know that matte key layer is supposed to be locked by default. So he has no idea how he got this special setting.

Does anyone know how to do this? I can always use the trick I already knew but it will be much time-saving if the matte key is unlocked from the beginning.

Are you sure he isn’t manually adding a matte key? There is no way to import a file (with a matte key track) and have it automatically unlocked.

Yes, I am sure. We work in the same company and he showed me. I will record a video with my iphone of this and post it next week so that you can see it.

I start thinking it is some kind of bug he happened to have.

So he can put an effect on the matte channel (inside the nest), like a resize?

yes, he just dropped effects like timewarp, sapphire’s shake, other distortion effect to change the shape of key and fill BY DEFAULT.

    I apologize for the delay.

I started recording from importing the quicktime movie with alpha channel and i didn’t edit the video so it is kind of long and hard to watch. but it proves that my friend has this setting.

    Kozo,

I think that you’re stepping in via a 2x click in segment/effect mode.

If you use the step in arrow at the bottom of the screen, it should show you the matte with the locked alpha.

I did a very quick recording to show you how to check – https://ow.ly/9IGUG

I apologize if it’s a little rough – Our house is sick (wife, me…) and we have a tired newborn.
