  • Matrox MXO2 Causes Timeline Scrub to Lag and Stutter

Posted by W. Lawrence stevens on August 15, 2014 at 5:44 pm

In our ever continuing endeavor to save expenses and accomplish some remaining SD delivery obligations in-house, we acquired a DVWM-2000 Digibeta deck to work with our FCP7 system which is normally used to output HD. To interface the deck with FCP for machine control, we were told to go with the Matrox MX02. Once everything was installed, scrubbing the timeline became tortured. It lags and stutters as if there is buffering problem somewhere.

The problem only occurs when View –> External Video is on (all frames or single) We have disconnected the deck and monitor and tried all of the applicable Matrox options under View –> Video Playback. The setting we want to use is MXO2-1080i YUV 8 bit 1920×1080. The Blackmagic Intensity Pro setting we were using prior to the Matrox installation to interface with the external monitor works just fine.

    Here’s our setup:

    MacPro 2,1, OS 10.7.5 (Lion) 2 x 3 Ghz Quad-Core Intel X5365 Xeon (8 core), 18 GB DDR2 FB-DIMM

Graphics: ATI Radeon HD 5870 1024 MB w/ Cinema HD 30″

    FCP 7.03

    Matrox MXO2 running 2.6.1.0001
    Firmware: 36.10

External Monitor: SONY PVM-20L5 MULTIFORMAT MONITOR 20″ W/BKM-142HD/SDI

We have tried adjusting just about all of the system preferences both in FCP and on the Matrox control panel. Any help in sorting this out is appreciated!

I’ve never encountered an issue like that on my MXO2. Are you 100% certain you have the correct drivers installed for Lion? That’s essential, as you stated you are running on Lion.

David: Yes, absolutely. This is Matrox’ online description of their Driver Version 2.6.10001:

“Installs the Matrox MXO2 v2.6.1 (build 1) software for Mac OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2) and Lion (10.7.5). This software supports Apple Final Cut Pro 7.0.3, and Adobe Premiere Pro 5.5.2.”
