Matrox DS1 Thunderbolt Docking Station Now Available…
Posted by Gary Huff on December 13, 2012 at 2:50 pm…but I wonder just who is excited by this? The Belkin dock seems far more usable than this thing.

I’m not sure what you mean by more or less “usability”.
The Matrox is around 250.00 or 275.00.
I believe the Belkin is around 400.00.
Also the Matrox seems to be shipping now, and I think the Belkin is not yet.
Franz.

December 13, 2012 at 3:41 pmThe price difference might be due to Belkin aiming for Thunderbolt passthrough.
Matrox will apparently have a version that allows for MXO2 hookup but that isn’t released either. Not quite the same as TB Passthrough but useful for MXO2 users and maybe less expensive. -

December 13, 2012 at 5:15 pmNeed a couple of ESATA ports on these things. Then they’d be useful.

December 13, 2012 at 5:16 pmThat’s why I am waiting for the Belkin.
eSata, Fw800, ethernet, 3 USB3, TBolt passthrough.

They must have changed it. It used to have eSata, that’s why I was waiting on it.

December 13, 2012 at 6:20 pmI think the Matrox design philosophy is a little different than Belkin’s.
I don’t think its intent is to connect everything conceivable to it, although that may be what some want.
I think it’s geared towards adding the basic missing connection one might have on newer Mac laptops rather than “legacy” connections. Ethernet, having USB2 ports for such devices that don’t tie up your USB3 ports, separate audio in and out jacks, a way to still connect a second monitor since you’re tying up a/the Thunderbolt port… and doing all this affordably.Again that’s, not to say there’s a need for a dock that connects with all the various devices we may have but that would be a bit more expensive… and consider what they might be bumping into causing that box delivery data being pushed back.

If there’s one thing that none of us want, it’s the box delivery data being pushed back.
Aye carumba.
