November 7, 2014 at 7:51 pmI took the card out of the camcorder and inserted it in the proper computer’s port. I used the option in file import in Vegas to import it. I’ve done this with several times with other projects it works fine. In the past I never removed the card and finished the project completely before removing the card. This time I removed the card as soon I imported the files. I was curios to see if when I import the files from the card Vegas copies them or just uses the card as another hard drive. Vegas sees the card as a hard drive but I didn’t expect to loose all the files that were on the card.

Now you know that this is the wrong way. You should be using View | Device Explorer to copy the contents of the card to your hard drive.
[Luigi Perrotta] “I’ve done this with several times with other projects it works fine. In the past I never removed the card and finished the project completely before removing the card.”
That’s because File | Import | Media imports the media into your Vegas Pro Project and NOT your hard drive. It leave the media in place on the card. This is not what you intended. You should be transferring the video to your hard drive before you start working with it.

I’m guessing that you corrupted the card because Vegas Pro had many files open on it when you ejected in. In fact, I’m guessing that you didn’t eject it properly by asking Windows to eject the card because it wouldn’t have let you. I’m guessing you just pulled it out of your computer.
This has been a hard lesson but it’s one that was caused by 1) Not understanding that Vegas does not copy any files when you import them into the project and 2) Memory cards need to be ejected properly after all of the files in use have been properly closed so as not to corrupt the card.
I would recommend you look for software that can recover lost files from memory cards and change your procedure for working with them.

November 8, 2014 at 2:30 pmThank you, this is a lesson learned the hard way. I already formatted the card. Next time I will go the extra step to copy the content to the hard drive. Yes, I just pulled the card out, I wanted to see what happens!
You seem to know much more then I do, maybe you may know why after one year of using Vegas 12 it still crashes so much that takes the fun out of editing. See original earlier e-mail for steps I have taken to avoid crashes and preserve my sanity, in the past I’ve spent hours on the phone with Sony’s support to resolve this problem. -

Next time I would try that test with media that you don’t care about. 😉 Cards are meant to be ejected using the Windows ejection app at the bottom right of your desktop. Never pull card out without ejecting it first. This has nothing to do with Vegas Pro.

Considering that the latest version if Vegas Pro 13.0 I’d say that Vegas Pro 12.0 will continue to crash since no one is fixing any of the bugs that cause it to crash. If you are working with Sony on it and they can’t help you then I’m not sure what your options are. If your computer is old perhaps it’s time for an upgrade? It’s hard to say what cases crashes because it can be so many things including bad memory, odd video formats, bad plug-ins, etc.

November 8, 2014 at 10:15 pmThank you John,
I think I was using Vegas 8.5, on an old computer running XP, I only had occasional crashes. I wanted to try Vegas 12 but it, if I recall, didn’t run on XP, so I went out and purchased a new CYBERPOWER, INTEL 7-3770, 3.50 HZ, 3.90 GHZ 16 GB MEMORY. I thought this would be great.
I purchased a NVIDIA GE FORCE (GT 6400), I got a new Echo audio4 for the sound. I removed my Universal Audio audio effects from my old computer and installed it in the new computer, this effects are very expensive but didn’t work with windows 8. So I ordered my new computer with windows 7, 64 bit.
I installed the new Vegas 12 on the new computer that is when my nightmare started, I was on the phone with Sony support many times. They told me to uncheck my NVIDIA card because they had some kind problems with the GPU acceleration, they were working on it to resolve the problem.
I was told to uncheck my Audiofire 4.
I was told not to use my expensive UniversalAudio effects.
After all this and one year later I am still crashing.I am at a point to remove and reinstall windows 7, but I don’t have the disk, next week I’ll call the computer manufacturer and see if they will send me a disk.
My project, usually contain 7-8 tracks of audio and 2 tracks of video.
The good thing is that even with all these crashes I was able to make some decent videos. Check my videos on you tube, just type: GINO DI NAPOLI in their search box.
Ciao

November 9, 2014 at 11:42 amWow, it’s unfortunate that this all happened with a brand new computer. It’s equally unfortunate that Sony told you to turn off all of the expensive hardware features that were the reason for buying the new computer in the first place. I’m glad I don’t have any of these Windows problems anymore. I’ve since moved all of my work over to the Mac. 😉
You might want to download the 30-day trial of Vegas Pro 13.0 because 12.0 is never going to get fixed. If the trial version solves your problems then I would upgrade. I’m not saying that Vegas pro 13.0 doesn’t have it’s problems but at least they have a chance of getting fixed. Vegas Pro 12.0 is very stable for me so I find it odd that you are having all these problems.

November 9, 2014 at 2:03 pmThere is always a possibility that there is something wrong with the new computer. Probably what I will do is finish the projects I am working on and start fresh with a new window 7 install.

December 5, 2014 at 2:36 pmI think I solved all my problems!
I removed all the programs that installed themselves.
When I had problems with Vegas, one of the “tech” suggested for me to install VLZ (I think this was the name) to play videos, I noticed that at the same time a bunch of programs installed themselves. I removed them all, I couldn’t remove completely a program called “STRONGVAULT”
I was able to remove just part of it. I disconnected the computer from the Internet.I was able to do a 2 hrs project with 7 audio tracks and two video tracks, loaded with effects, without a problem.

That is most unfortunate. It’s good that you caught that and were able to remove the other programs. Glad to see you got it all working now.

February 11, 2015 at 8:01 pmHello John,
I thought I had all my problems resolved but I am back at square one.I went back to a project that I have done last year, I just inserted a date on the time-line. I noticed the audio was out of sync with video. I thought maybe it’s just the preview, I tried to render it but the computer crashed, I tried different templates with the same results.
I downloaded the trial version of Vegas 13, I pressed play, it played correctly but couldn’t stop it, I had to close the computer down to stop it. I set the computer back in time but that didn’t resolve the problem.
I tried a different old project with the same result.I’ve been calling Sony for a few days but a machine comes on: they are closed for training.
Maybe you or a member can offer some help?
Thank you
Gino
