  • Matching Camera Profile for Canon HV20

I’m looking for a profile for the Canon HV20 for CS3 – Standard or the two alternatives aren’t working. Does CS4 have one for transfers from this camera to the HDD.

    Thanks so much,

    Hi Bill,

Not sure what the issue is you are seeing…are you unable to capture HDV via Firewire? If so, go into the camera menu in VTR mode, and check if the HDV > DV convert is ON. Not positive on how it’s worded in the menu, but the camera can downconvert HDV to DV on the Firewire output, and this is typically ON by default.

Turn the convert setting OFF, power off camera and close Premiere, as camera needs to be initialized to the system as an HDV device and not DV. Turn on camera again and wait for PC to recognize it (beep or message pop up), then start Premiere and choose the HDV project preset. Don’t mess with the camera protocol, the default should work fine (I have the HV20 myself).

Hi Jeff, thanks for the reply. This camera is entirely new to me, and I downloaded a copy of the manual to try and sort all this out as well. I’m using CS3.

I get some images but no moving video flow, but there is something I would call sort of stuttering of the images, and “crackling” of the audio. But there is little movement of the images.

I’m looking in the camera at the DV Output setting and it has selections which are identified as DV Output, either “DV locked” and HDV/DV “HDV/DV”. I don’t see any location identified as “convert” I’ve set the setting to HDV/DV, not DV Locked.

In Play/Out Setup 1, I changed the “Playback standard” to HDV rather than “auto”.

In setting up the CS3 project which HDV setting do you select for HDV for the 1080i?

I usually use various SONY cameras, so don’t see how to reset the device selection.

    Thanks,
    Bill in Toronto
