I’ve been working on a lot of music videos lately, being handed mastered tracks from the audio engineers. When I place in projects with no gain or level adjustments the track will clip out on my audio meter. Shouldn’t a mastered track come in without clipping? I’ve had to bump most tracks down a few DB to come in under. That seems bizarre to me.

Most song masters I’ve dealt with in music video projects are pretty much mastered to ~0dB.

I wonder if the peak indicator in Premiere goes off at ~0db and that’s why I’m seeing peaking with masters- because they’re pushed right to the limit… Have you noticed peaking with masters you’ve worked with that you can recall?

Yes and depending on where the music video is going to be played we normalized the track to broadcast specs or dropped it a bit for web use.
