Hi all–I’m a novice to intermediate editor (where I work we do very little video production). So, I come here seeking some technical expertise.

We’ve reached out to a company that produced a DVD and they’ve agreed to let us re-purpose their movie and produce a DVD with our edits. We received a master HDCAM tape with the final movie on it (1080i, 60fps). We then had it encoded to ProRes so that I may re-cut it in FCPX.

When I save out the edited movie from FCPX it looks great as a ProRes movie. But when I save the MPEG-2 and create the DVD from DVDSP, the type/graphics don’t seem as sharp as they do on the original DVD.

Did the original company simply have a better workflow for creating the SD DVD, or is there something I can do from an encode standpoint to make the graphics look better?

I also have a question about Closed Captioning, but I’ll save that for another post.

    thanks.
