I’ve finished a project and need to master to DVCPRO HD tape. I’m planning on renting the AJ-1200a and was wondering if anybody has done this procedure before. I plan on having a self-contained QT in the same format as footage/timeline (720p60). I don’t have a card and understand that it can be transferred via firewire. Also wanted to know if there are any drawbacks to going firewire. I have a G5, dual 2gig.

Thanks in advance for your replies.

You must control the 1200A via Firewire when you Edit to Tape. RS-422 is disabled for any editing functions.

Thus, the deck will have an offset from 11-20 frames from your actual in-point. You will have to run multiple Edit to Tape tests if you require your master to start as a specific timecode, such as 01:00:00:00.

You can ONLY perform an Assemble Edit with this deck, so there is no need to black a tape.
