    Hi —

    — have a 3d comp where the floor is made of various shapes – some are ‘layers’ with masks on on others are ‘shape layers’.

When all the elements are precomped the masked layers do not stay sharp when ‘continuous rasterise’ is selected.

Is this just the way it is or am I missing something please ?

Hi Chris, It sounds like you may not have the continuous rasterization switch turned on for the masked layers inside of the pre-comp.

hello chris, I just wondering if there is a way here to attach the file , or part of it as you may want , I experienced such problem before , but it’s good to see what you encountered with.

I just want to point out that while that switch is “Continuously Rasterize” for vector layers, it is “Collapse Transformations” for comp layers.

While the on-screen effect can sometimes be the same (keeping layers sharp), the function itself is very different. Collapse Transformations tells Ae NOT to rasterize the comp layer and then apply masks, effects, transforms, and layer styles to the one composite layer. Instead, it tells Ae to transform and composite each layer within the comp individually into the main containing comp, effectively pulling them into the containing comp.

Some good information here in the docs:
    https://helpx.adobe.com/after-effects/using/3d-layers.html#3d_layer_interactions_render_order_and_collapsed_transformations

And here from Chris and Trish Meyer:
