Masking wont remove background?
Posted by Amaris Mosley on March 23, 2017 at 6:22 pmSo, I am using After Effects CC 2017, and whenever I mask, It will show the lines around what I masked, but it won’t delete the background/turn the background black. What can I do to fix this issue? Thanks.

March 23, 2017 at 7:01 pmWell, I tried doing a smaller mask and it removed the background, but when I try to mask a human it won’t work. Also, how do I check the mask mode? Thank you for your help.

March 23, 2017 at 7:25 pmClick to highlight the layer in the timeline. Type “m”. This will show you the mask (or masks) on the layer. To the right of the name of the mask is a drop-down menu that let’s you choose the effect the mask has on the layer: None, Add, Subtract, etc.
The simplest explanation is that the mask is set to None. If not, then obviously something else is going on.

March 23, 2017 at 7:53 pmNot enough information. What kind of layer? Is there only one mask on the layer? How did you create the mask? Have you tried deleting it and creating another one?
Are you sure the mask path is closed?

March 23, 2017 at 8:44 pmGreat.
If you need the effects, pre-compose the layer with the effects, and then apply the mask to the pre-comp.
