Masking woes…
Hey, need to mask out a Wave form that I generated in AE.
Usually if you precomp the layer, Masking works just as it should. However, even when I precomp the solid that has the wave form effect applied to it, I still can not mask it.
Any ideas? Can you just not mask some effects?

What wave form/effect? How do you want it masked? Need a few more details please.

Effect > Generate > Audio spectrum.
I wanted to mask out a portion of the wave form so that a building could go in front of it. No, I can not duplicate the building and place it in front of the wave form.
I need to be able to mask the actual layer/comp that the wave form is applied to.

Well, because of time constraints, I had to employ a crude work around. I’m not sure why I could not mask the wave form. Maybe I just need to restart or some thing (the comp has a lot of effects).
Dave, the reasons that I can not simply mask the building are many. I’ll post the whole situation tomorrow when I have more time.

Precomping like Dave suggested lets me mask that precomp.
Just make sure you precomp (move all attributes) the solid with Audio Spectrum, by selecting both layers, the solid and the Audio Layer that it references, before you, Layer>Precompose. They both need to be in that precomp for audio spectrum to work.
It then masks like any other layer for me.
