I’ve never had a problem like this before. I am using the same still with a copy. I have three layers with the first layer being an unmasked final copy. I have turned it off.

The second layer is masked (subtract invert)
The third is masked (add invert)

I want one part of the second layer mask to show through on the third layer mask.

I cannot get the second layer to show through.

I realize that this is a rudimentary problem but I have never had this problem before. I am using CS3 for the first time. Is there something different about it that I need to know?

    Thanks,

    Bill

    Hi Dave,
Thanks for getting back to me. I have, I believe, tried every possible variable as far as the masks are concerned to no avail! To recap, I have a layer of a building which I masked out of the background. I then made a duplicate of it. I want to explode the building in the picture and then have the background remain. I now have two layers, the building and the background. I cannot get the masked building into the masked background. I know that I am obviously doing something wrong, but cannot put my finger on this. I have masked and done similar things before and never had a problem until now. At the end I want to put another masked image of the aftermath of the exploded building behind the background layer. Is there another way to do this or could you offer other suggestions to get it done?

Thank you so very much, I am stumped at what is probably a simple correction.

Thanks Dave, that is exactly what I did and it has worked well. Thank you for your suggestions!
