    this is probably an operator error (it generally is).

    i have a couple words of text that i want to slide onto a page.
    so i have a text layer
    i place a mask over it and keyframe the mask path and position where i want it to end.
    i pull the text slightly off to the left then collapse the mask to hide the text — keyframe both.

    render and viola — text animates in.

    however, if i make the layer 3D, the text still animates in but the collapsed mask no longer hides the text. i can see the mask moving — it’s just not hiding the text like a good mask should.

    i tried a couple of different animate on techniques using a mask path — but noticed all of the masked animation properties disappear as soon as i make the layer 3d.

    so now i’m just puzzled.

    thoughts?

    using ae cs6 11.0.2

    Sounds like you are using the Ray-traced 3D renderer, do you need ray-tracing for this project, which will cause the issues you describing. Press Cntl+K to open your comp dialogue and change the render to Classic 3D
