    Hi,

I would like to know if it is possible to have the mask expansion tool reveal an image from a corner point instead of the middle of the image? (I hope that makes sense)

    Regards,
    Shan

Try adding a 2nd mask off to the side of your first mask (which I am assuming is set to Add). Set its type to Subtract. Then increase the expansion of this 2nd mask. It should obscure the contents of the 1st mask as it goes.

If the 1st mask is Subtract, make the new mask Add.

If you want to reveal from the top right corner of the first mask, place the 2nd mask to the bottom left of the 1st, etc.

Hope this is what you’re looking for.

Just a thought, but how about creating a new shape layer and using the pen tool to do this to create your custom maks…Now, set this as a track matte for your first layer. Next, move the anchor point on the shape layer to the point where you want the grow to move from…..now simply scale the shape layer.

I am not in front of AE at the moment, but I am assuming this should work….Also, I believe that shape layer are vectorial, so you should be able to avoid blurred masks. Again, just a thought, but it should work. I love using track mattes…I find for a lot of work that they are more practical than layer masks….lets say the client wants you to grow the original image inside the mask….can be tedious resizing, but not when using track mattes. Also, to move both elements they can easily be parented to a null object.

    Regards
