I’m trying to get a black oval mask effect, but it disappears after rendering.

I have a black and white gif, basically a 16:9 matte with an oval, (shown here: https://www.geocities.com/donaldchan14/pal_16_9_oval.gif).

I place it on a layer above my video, and I set opacity about 50%, chroma key to see video on layer below, and do a gaussian blur to soften the edges. I think the gaussian blur prevents it from rendering? Am I doing something wrong, or breaking a rule?

If anyone has a better way to do this, please help!

    Thanks!
    Don

I followed your steps and it rendered just fine in Premiere Pro 1.5.1 – but you could lways just blur it in Photoshop so you would not have to worry about it in Premiere Pro. And then you would not have issues with blurring at the edges either.
