I’ve been noticing to if you match into a shot, the shot loads in the play viewer with ins and outs, if you insert the shot you get the error message saying that the durations don’t match and asking you which out point you want to ignore. They kinda need to fi that. Just doesn’t make sense.

[John Pale] “This has been a part of NLE interface behavior since the beginning.”

The EMC2, D/Vision and *edit all used standard CMX in/out points. These were all PC editing systems, so maybe that had something to do with it. With the standard in/out markings if you set an in point at the playhead and then want to define a selection that’s 30 frames long, you simply go +30 and mark your out. With the FCP/PPro system you have to remember to go +29 frames to define a 30 frame selection. It’s beyond idiotic.

Herb, while I see your point, the way modern NLEs work regarding the timeline probably will not change. However, if you want to add “oldie but goodie” features from the EMC2, feel free: https://www.adobe.com/go/wish

    Kevin –

I’ve long since accepted that in this world stupidity often wins out and I have no desire to knock my head against the wall of this particular instance; it’s just that when the subject comes up I feel the need to vent.

I do, believe me. And I’ve got a whole list ready to fire off when I get a chance to put it together. PPro has great potential but it needs some work yet to be the everyday editor at the places I work. I believe it will get there though or hope it does because I really don’t enjoy working with Avid.
