Let me state the obvious first … I am new to this!

I have a SR11 and a trial version of Vegas Pro. I am just beginning to learn how to film and edit HD video. I have spent the last several days reading through various forums and am a bit overwhelmed by all the information so I would like to consolidate my questions in one place. And this forum has the best info I can find!

I capture my video files using the supplied Sony software and edit the resulting .m2ts files in Vegas.

Question 1: My camera will output 1920×1080 but in the project properties dialogue this is not an option, only 1440×1080. Why is this?

Question 2: If I want to burn a Blu Ray DVD which format do I use? I assume I will have to do the actual burning with a different DVD authoring software, one that has a Blu Ray option. Any suggestions?

Question 3: Since I currently do not own a Blu Ray device other than my computer which format is compatible with a standard DVD player? I hope to buy one soon but I would like to make DVD’s that are compatible with other peoples players. Is the quality still good at this level?

    Thanks,

    Phillip

re your Q2: DVDA 4.5 is supposed to be going up to v5 in June/July, and will have bluray authoring. Free upgrade for 4.5 users.

Try the HD 1080-60i (1920×1080, 29.970 fps) template (third up from the bottom).

    > Question 2: If I want to burn a Blu Ray DVD which format do I use? I assume I will have to do the actual burning with a different DVD authoring software…

As Adam said, when you purchase Vegas Pro 8.0 is comes with DVD Architect Pro 4.5 which will be upgraded to 5.0 shortly with Blu-ray authoring for free.

The quality will be higher than if you used a standard definition camera. This is because you are starting out with much higher quality source. Everything I shoot is in HD and I only deliver DVD’s and people always comment on how great the quality is.
