I’m editing HDV footage for the first time with Premiere Pro. I am unsure of which format to export to so I can continue work on the project in After Effects. My attempts so far seem to be resulting in quality loss or unwanted changes in aspect ratio. Should I be using the export function or the Media Encoder? Also what Comp settings should I create in AE to accommodate what I have exported from Premiere?

AE doesn’t like HDV. Export from Premiere as an uncompressed AVI or as a Targa or TIFF sequence; 1440×1080, square pixels. These settings are in the export movie menu. AE comp settings should match.

simple solution; upgrade to Premiere Pro 2.0 at least and gain a tremendous amount of time and less confusion with Adoby Dynamic Link. Move from Premiere timeline and AE compositions without ever having to export. Now you may have to render depending on the power of your hardware in place, but you will not have to export and lose quality nor get confused on the thousands of options.
