  • Making video sync with a beat?

Posted by Kevin Burke on July 21, 2009 at 4:13 am

    Hi,
I have some video footage of some old-timey dancers and an audio file.

I cannot change the audio to match the dancers, so I have to get the video to match the audio. Can anyone recommend some techniques for doing this? I want to map the time of the moves to hit on the beat of my song.

Also, a related issue, I’m not sure how to listen to the audio in After Effects in the timeline. I can see it’s waveform, but I’m not able to scrub.

    Thanks!

Time remap? Set keyframes on the dancers layer where you want them to sync with the audio, then drag those key frames to match the beats of the audio… or something like that.

Thanks for the response. I’ll give it a try.

To preview audio in AFX…press the . that’s the period key on your numberpad.

Also…I’ve found helpful for indicating beats in AFX…with the layer selected, do a RAM preview and press the * that is the asterisk key on your numberpad and it will lay down layer markers as you roll through it. (They don’t show up until you stop playback)
