Making tiles out of many different layers
Hi all:
I”ve been working on an effect where I have lots of different clips, and I want them to appear and disappear on squares on different parts of the screen, as if they were tiles. I’ve looked at all the tiling plugins in AE, but they all seem to be designed to split one layer in lots of tiles, not for my effect, which requires each tile to be a different image/layer.
In the end, I had to put each clip in a layer, scale it and animate their opacities by hand, but I can’t help but think that there must be a way to automate this (other than using Javascript, which would also be a possibility). Is there a plugin to do the effect I’ve described above?

You need to check out the 3d Assistants from Digital Anarchy. They will do just that. There used to be a “Lite” version that was included in older versions of AE. They show up under “Window”. No longer included but worth the investment.
