    Greetings,

I was wondering if someone could point me to what software is used to give still photos a 3D effect. Is it something that can be done in Photoshop, or is there another program?

    Thanks Shane.

Just purchased AVID Symphony; I’m also switching from FCP 7. I loved your “Getting Organized With FCP” tutorial. Hope you do one for AVID now 🙂

    Best,

I assume you’re talking about the effect that is showing up fairly regularly now on just about every cable documentary and reality program where an element pulls out in front of the image and the background goes sort of soft?

To do this you’ll need to rotoscope the element that pulls out, and then do a slight scale on it, while simultaneously dropping the background slightly out of focus. You can do it directly in Avid using two layers, an Animatte, and a defocus effect. No extra software necessary.
