  • Making menus in PS – Aspect and dimension question

Posted by Nathan Quattrini on April 1, 2009 at 8:05 pm

I am making back ground images for my menus for a widescreen dvd. What dimensions and Pixel Aspect ratio should I use in photoshop so they display correctly after being burned to the DVD? Also is there a template for this with safe margins? Thanks 🙂

NTSC widescreen menus are 720×480 with a pixel aspect ratio of 1.2, and PAL widescreen menus are 720×576 with a pixel aspect ratio of 1.422.

Photoshop CS(1) and later have a preset for this, with guides for action/title safe.

    Nathan,

Maybe you already have the idea, but what I do is make a new document in PS
Preset is film and video. Make your settings then save.

With you open photo/image in PS, go to image, image size. Resize to dimensions needed for PAL or NTSC, (notice the checkbox : constrain proportions)

    ok

image again, then select pixel aspect ratio
    select for PAL or NTSC

then, all you have to do is drag this photo into the new document you created at the beginning.

    Thanks for your time.
