  • Making a “pixel-y” line drawing appear sharper using Illustrator or Photoshop

We have a simple line drawing of an alternator for a car that we’d like to improve the quality of. We have it as a PNG file, but it is “pixel-y” and doesn’t look great. Without having to literally connect the dots myself, I’m wondering if there is an Illustator or Photoshop tool that might work. Thanks!

You could try using LiveTrace in Illustrator CS2. Although, LiveTrace is no replacement for a skilled technical illustrator, it might work for you.
    -Open the image in Illustrator
-Select the image, and the Live Trace option will appear on the Illustrator menu.
-Click the triangle drop-down button to access >Tracing Options…< I'd recommend setting LiveTrace to Black & White, and enable Strokes. There are numerous settings to tune the tracing.
