  • Making a depth of field blur for 3d layers w/ camera

I have a bunch of .psd layers placed in space and a camera zoom key framed so that you pull thru them into the center to the last one.

I would like to make a Depth of Field blur so that as they zoom pass they get blurry on the periphrial (sp.) In other words so that they are in focus in the center and far away and get blurry as they get closer to the camera and pass by.

Now I know that the cameras have all the options for this but I can’t seem to make it effect any of my 3D layers at all. Depth of Field is “On” and I have been playing with the Aperature Blur level and Focus distance to no avail.

    Anybody have any suggestions?

If you select your camera and look at it in a top-down view you should see a few different lines defining the depth of field. There should be a center line showing the point at which everything is perfectly focused and a line on either side of that that shows the extent of the depth of field. You should be able to make this range smaller by increasing the aperture (shallow depth of field) or larger by decreasing the aperture (‘deep focus’).

Also make sure your Camera’s Blur Level is set to 100% and that you are not viewing the composition in 3D Draft mode (this disables depth of field as well as lights/shadows).

also, if you are in fact zooming (changing the camera’s focal distance) rather than moving the camera through the scene you will also be effecting the amount of depth of field for a given aperture.
