  • Making a comp act like a Flash movieclip

    Hey Guys-

Coming from being a Flash developer years ago, I always wondered one thing. Is there a way to stop() or play() a composition like you can with a movieclip in Flash… preferably using Expressions?

Basically I have a short animation that I want to only play at certain times in the overall timeline. I want to just take that short animation, drop it on the timeline and use Expressions to make it play or stop on command. Is there a way to do this?

Any help or alternative methods appreciated!

Hey Dave, I think you misunderstood. I’m sorry if it was hard to understand, especially for people that don’t know Flash. What I am saying… is there a way to tell certain compositions to start and stop at different times while playing. So for instance, at say the 2:10 mark of playback, an Expression tells another comp to play its animation. Hope thats more clear.

Time Remapping may get you part of the way there. This gives you an animatable property that controls playback. It’s hard to know exactly what your end goal is so I can’t say for sure if it’ll work.

Thanks man. Thats what I ended up using. I could swear i once saw a tut on someone stopping and starting comps using expressions…

You can apply expressions to time remapping but the implementation will depend entirely on what functionality you need and which limitations you’re willing to accept.
