  • Make one layer fade out a bunch of other layers?

    Hi there,

i’ve a lot of layers in my comp which need to fade out at the same time, but i can’t subcomp them or use a stencil alpha.
I think that this can be done via scipting, but i’m not a script guy.

All the layers that need to fade out start with “Pointer_”.
So maybe it is possible to make an adjustment layer that has a script on it that lets me do keyframes for the opacity of all the “Pointer_” layers?

It would be great if somebody could show me how to do that.
    Thanks a lot!
    cheers,
    Chris

If you have one layer that does the fade out the way you want, you can just use it as a reference for all of the other layers opacity. In the example below, I’ve called the layer with the opacity keyframes “Master Layer” – you’ll need to change the name of this to whatever layer has your keyframes. Also, once you’ve put this expression in one of the child layers, right click, and select expression only, then select all the other child layers and hit paste. This way, you don’t have to add this expression to each layers opacity.

    thisComp.layer("Master Layer").transform.opacity

    “|_ (°_0) _|”

    Sincerely,

    George

This can be easily accomplished with property links. Just use the Copy With Property Links command on the master property, select the properties that you want to follow the master, and paste.
