I was wondering if anyone had any experience in using the make Independent Clip option. I take my clip from my bin to the time line and adjust my in and out point then right click and select the Make Independent Clip” option. Then it does nothing, so I try again and it is grayed out.I plan on doing a multiclip edit after this so I am inserting slugs to keep the in and out point the same. I tried it with and without the slugs and it doesn’t work. Any suggestions?

Make Clip Independent may not do what you want it to. You’ll need to examine the manual very carefully. Volum 4, pages 48-58 to get started.

The family of clip types in FCP is stupidly over-complex, really poor application design, seems to be related to FCP’s notoriously terrible media management. Visit kenstone.net to see an article on the topic.

This is my standard sigfile so do not take it personally: “For crying out loud, read the freakin’ manual.”
