  • Major issues with M2T files on new system running Sony Vegas

    Hi

Hope you can help. Bought a whole new system (64Bit) 6 Core – 8GB Ram all for video editing purposes. Have spent age configuring it only to find at the end…Sony Vegas 11 (64Bit) is having problems with M2T (miniDV) footage.
When I scroll along the track with the marker – cannot see nothing change in preview window apart from GREEN screen. If I press “play” button – it jerkly plays the footage on the track. Tried other footage like WMV – that seemed ok. Tried some MP4 footage from mini camcorder – that showed green aswell. However these clips were find on my older 32bit system.
Now…strangley enough…It wont open the M2T file (after I moved it from external disk to local disk). Says access denied to file. However the file is fine – I can play it from an external app.

    Appreciate your help and advice
    J

I have a similar system and no problems with M2T files.
What is the source of the M2T file? (MiniDV is the tape package and has nothing to do with the video data format).
When you can’t open a file in Vegas but you can in a player program, that tells me that the file is either “Read Only” or belongs to another user.

Hi Steve, thankyou for your reply. Appreciate your assistance and time

I used Sony Video Capture – to capture HD files straight off a Sony HD Camcorder which records onto miniDV tapes (unfortunately this is time consuming since you have to play the files in real time).
An hours footage comes out as a M2T file at around 13.5GB.

When editing these, using older versions of Vegas its always been nice and smooth. Since I only do home movies with limited effects – some footage does not require recompression so rendering the file edit has always been fast.

    I’m using a AMD – 6Core (3.2Ghz) 8Gb ram – Win7 Home Prem.64Bit.
Vegas 11 64bit had those issues I mentioned earlier. I then installed Vegas 11 32bit aswell – which had the same issues with M2T files. I then uninstalled Vegas 1164bit – Vegas32bit still had issues.

I then uninstalled the whole lot – removed all reg entries etc and went back to Vegas 10 32bit. Its now working fine with Vegas 10 32bit and editing M2T files is nice and smooth. I am going to leave it alone and stay with this.

The only benefit I have with the 64Bit PC is that I can open lots of 32bit appliations at the same time due to the 8GB ram (correct me if I am wrong).

Thats ok since I use that PC for lots of other things.

Vegas 10 crashed yesterday though – faulting module was: MSVCR80.dll
I am hoping this is a one off.

    Appreciate any advice or opinions.
    Thanks
