major FCP 5 problems
hi there,
we have a brand new Mac Pro dual core with 2 gigs of RAM, running 10.4.8 and FCP 5.1.2, with external SCSI storage, and we had a major crash yesterday. for a while, we’ve been having a problem with the SCSI drives going offline in the middle of editing, and having to reboot. some days it doesn’t happen at all, other days it could happen several times within an hour! yesterday it came to a head: a whole bunch of files went offline, but the drives remained mounted. when it all came back up, many files (of course, the important element files) were missing, and we have not been able to locate them again. we suspect that our project file was corrupted and causing us problems. has anyone ever heard of anything like this happening? could a bad project file ultimately erase media files from a drive?
any insights would be very much appreciated. i am actually not the editor myself, but trying to help my co-worker.

I’ve heard that SCSI’s are no longer supported for FCP, but I’m not positive.

Not true.
Run Disk Warrior or a similar utility to be sure its not a directory problem first.
If that doesnt help, it could be hardware problem with your RAID. Could be a bad drive or RAID controller.

I can’t see how that would be possible. It could cause things to appear offline, but I dont see how it could delete the files from your drive.
