  • MAGIX Sound and Loops – License different than SONY’S?

Posted by Francois Blawat on August 19, 2018 at 10:18 pm

Is it just me or has MAGIX really changed the license use for Sounds and Loops for ACID? SONY used to sell their Loops for ACID having royalty free licenses but now under https://www.producerplanet.com/us/licenses/ website, it seems they have 3 different uses prices. Posting videos you made on Youtube using SONY’s loops and sounds never used to be a problem. Now it seems, MAGIX is trying to change a lot of things.

Unless I’m reading it all wrong, but it says “Embedding content in an “advertising-financed environment” such as when videos are uploaded to YouTube, SoundCloud or similar online platforms that are financed by advertising.” requires a commerical license. Royalty Free use seems like it is out the window now under MAGIX. I’m glad I kept my SONY loops for ACID libraries.

Seems they have indeed done some modifications to the licensing….

I noticed that the Magix “commercial – unlimited” price is the same as the old Sony price. So it looks like they have simply added a cheaper alternative for those that don’t need the rights.

And Francois, i wold not go as far as saying “MAGIX is trying to change a lot of things”….. The modifications
simply comes with the change in ownership, but i would not really complain over their licensing adjustments
    that i see.

    Steve,

I was indicating my observation that Royalty free seems to be out the window. I guess users will need to pay attention when buying Loops. I’m assuming MAGIX cannot change my current licenses I have for purchased physical media of Loops I have under the Sony label. I guess I should review my phrasing next time before I post. ☺

    Mark,

Thanks for posting that update regarding the pricing. When I saw the three tiers I was a bit taken a back.

    Thanks,

    Most welcome.
Personally, I will stick with the commercial unlimited versions – that’s “royalty free” in my view and the price is mostly OK.

I also have lots of Sony libraries and, no, and cannot imagine they can alter the contract terms after the fact.

FYI, producerloops has tons of libraries and they are also royalty free.
