I’ve used Magic Bullet Looks pretty extensively in the past, but I’ve just started using Neumann Films’ Cinematic Looks presets for Vegas. And, quite frankly, I’m liking what I’m seeing. For twenty dollars, you just download a pack of 30 presets and install them add them into the Media FX tab of Vegas. Bang, done, call it a day! Each time you add a filter from Neumann to either your entire timeline or to an individual event, you can tweak each component of the filter, whether it be color correction, levels or what have you, similar to what you can do on Magic Bullet Looks. It’s just plain cheaper and it works! I’m pretty happy with it.

Vegasaur also has film looks via the native Vegas plug-ins at similarly low prices.

My preferred choice is NewblueFX ColorFast, better even than
Magic Bullet Looks in my book.

I get film looks by shooting on a good camera with good lenses, three dimensional lighting, establishing rules for how the camera moves and how cuts go together, and good talent.

You still need a good Color Correcting / Color Grading Tool when
    you get crap from clients.

Aren’t these presets just using Vegas color grading plugins, though? I think I have some VASST Celluloid film looks, and all it really does is save you a little time (if you prefer the looks it gives) by adjusting the dials on Vegas’ color grading plugins. And of course, having those presets dialed in for me never quite give me the look I’m going for, but I suppose I never quite want to emulate a film look, at least not using Vegas’ own plugins.

Exactly my point, Angelo. Magic Bullet Looks and The Neumann Films products do essentially the same thing, just in a different manner. I’ve noticed that in most everything film, there’s a way to do something and spend a lot of money, and there’s a way to do something really similar and not spend so much. And that was my point behind the post.

No, Magic Bullet Looks and Neumann Films products Does not do the same thing.

Also, Neumann and VASST Film Looks are only presets of whats already in Vegas.

Magic Bullet Looks along with NewblueFX ColorFast, takes Color Grading
to a far higher level of colors and tones manipulation. Far higher
than what Vegas’s filters alone can achieve…Thats the bottom line.
