January 31, 2012 at 6:49 pmGee I posted that Sapphire Edge 1.1 is out for 10.0.3 in the Techniques Forum. I didn’t know these were subject to “Debate.”

January 31, 2012 at 6:50 pmOutstanding news! That means that Apple has been working with third-party developers to resolve the bugs that have delayed effects like this — a very good sign about taking their industry partnerships seriously.

January 31, 2012 at 6:52 pmI’d also point out that Sapphire Edge is available for FCPX as well. I’ve been testing it in Beta, and it boasts similar performance to Looks (ie. good, but not native good yet).
Mojo, always a render hog, plays nearly in real-time in FCPX – which is a real plus!
I like the Looks pop-up window – they’ve worked hard to get this as useful as the FCP7 version.
Got tp love the RED Pledge too – if you own Looks, it will work in FCP7, X, AE, PPro, Avid, etc. etc. – This the future of plug-ins.
So far – testing shows it’s stable and as nice to use as it always was…

“Well it’s the”FCPX or not forum” and the availability of these plug-ins might help some people make their decision!

January 31, 2012 at 7:11 pmI wonder if Colorista II is now EOL, as it appears Looks2 has acquired most of it’s toolset.

Hardly, no keyer, no secondaries.

January 31, 2012 at 8:20 pmYou’re correct, and my personal experience is that Colorista’s “Ranged HSL” tool is like having several secondaries in one when it comes to color fine-tuning without the need for a keyer. Looks masking tools seem more intuitive than Colorista’s single secondary masking tool too.

January 31, 2012 at 9:27 pmI really don’t care about Looks, though I see how clearly it fits into the mindset of “template heaven” that FCPX seems to be about.
Show me Colorista II and I’ll be more interested. Hell, even Sapphire Edge isn’t really that exciting (for the same reason Looks isn’t).
PluralEyes is however. Wonder when that gets out of beta.
