February 25, 2015 at 4:08 pmI had hardtime trying to capture with my Magewell HDMI dongle
using capture utility inside Vegas Pro 13…
Not quite working.
So I finally found a video mixer (!!) software called VMix
that actually captures very nicely the incoming HDMI to my
dongle and encodes it to an ‘adjustable’ compression to
AVI, MPEG, WMV or MP4.
These encoded files are easily acccepted on the
Vegas Pro time line.JP

January 22, 2016 at 7:16 pmI’ve finally been able to record with my Magewell USB3 dongle through Sony Vegas Pro 13 using Capture ‘DV’ .. I just had to set the capture properties to whatever resolution I needed which was 1080×720. At the end of the capture I always got an error message telling Sony capture crashed and I closed it.
But the recorded file was in the capture directory ready to be put in the Vegas timeline without problem.J-P Desrochers

March 27, 2016 at 12:07 amJean-Pierre I have been trying unsuccessfully to capture HDMI footage from the Magewell, In fact since the first one back to the factory in China, I’ve tried several applications for Capture but no luck at all,So I came across your post and decided to capture with Sony Vegas Pro capture DV, I set the project properties to 1080 x 720 And saw in the capture That it recognized the Magewell in the video tab,Good so Far right? So I clicked the captured button.. I saw a slight glitch in the capture window and thought it was going to work, however it’s just a black screen with no audio either, then I noticed in the video tab above was grayed out and not allowing me to Select the Magewell Again.
I Once again went back into project properties,And reset to 1080 x 720,Started the capture procedure once more…
Same thing happened video Grayed out etc.Bummer… Any thoughts on this ??? thank you for your input. -

March 27, 2016 at 1:25 amHi Blade,
I’m on Easter vacation for the next 3 days..
I’ll do the same procedure I did before with the Magewell
USB dongle Inside Vegas Pro 13 and I’ll get back to you in the next days..
I won’t forget you.

March 29, 2016 at 12:41 pmAfter many other tests with the Magewell dongle
captured inside Vegas Pro 13 I conclude the captured .AVI
files are not reliable.. Sometimes there is no video, only audio,
sometimes I get video+audio but both out of sync..
Sorry to have been enthousiasm too fast from a small captured files that worked.
I’m still looking for an EASY video capture software that offers
a good choice of file encoding including low compressed .AVI .
That sofware should be able to accept a USB3 HD video stream from my Magewell dongle.
I don’t need any editing possibilities ncluded (already have inside Vegas).I tried the following:
-Debut video capture
-Camverce
-CamtasiaJP
