I have a new (Jan2008) MacPro and with the BM HD Extreme card installed in the top slot as advised, and the machine takes as much as 5 minutes to start up after I push the button. It just sits there doing nothing, black screens, and then finally chimes like it’s restarting and finally starts up, about 5 minutes after I’ve pushed the start button. Has anybody else experienced this, found a way to overcome it? I disabled sleep settings, screen saver, etc.., to no effect. thanks.

    Hi,

This is now the normal waiting operation in the Intel 5400 chipsets like the new MAC PRO.

It happens also with the Decklink HD PRO DL PCI-X card
in the PC version of the Intel 5400 chipset.
It happens also in the HP XW-8600, Dell Precision T5400
    and Dell Precision T7400 workstations.
And the PCI Express based Multibridge PRO2 is also
not supported anymore in the available workstations.

After I had a lot of troubles with one of the new
Dell presicion T5400 workstations and I have got the official statement from Blackmagic that they shall not support the Intel 5400 chipsets based computers I have then tried my luck and I have bought all these workstations including the new MAC PRO and spend a lot of money to see, if the Blackmagic products are compatible with the avilable computers on the market and I have found out that they are not compatible anymore.

The Blackmagic needs to release the new firmware to address the issues, but it is very unlikely that they shall do it, because they now only support the computers which are not available anymore although you can stil buy the older
MAC PRO in the few last stocks and you shall be just fine.

    Best regards,

    Gorazd.

Actually, BlackMagic worked with me on this. I sent them the card and after numerous tests they determined there was in fact something wrong with the card and sent me a new one. I’ve just installed it and it seems to be working perfectly, the computer starts up in under 30 seconds.
