Mackie Control Surface with F/C 7
Posted by Philippe Neron on May 15, 2012 at 3:16 amHi
My Mackie Control Surfaces work when I am SoundTrack Pro but not when I am in F/C. I have the “Audio Mixer” open but unable to “Jog” or “Play” via the control surfaces

May 15, 2012 at 8:20 pmSo are you saying the faders work but the jog/play does not ? Or does nothing work ?
I have a Mackie Universal working with FCP via simple MIDI/USB – Mackie mode and then configure it under the control surface menu.
Then as you correctly say opening the mix tool activates the control surface.
best wishes

May 16, 2012 at 7:07 pmOnce configured it should work in FCP just fine.
You might want to check the MCU’s control setting. The MCU supports 3 different control protocols: Mackie Control, Logic and HUI.
If you have mismatched these settings with what you have defined in FCP then you’ll have trouble.
To change your MCU’s control setup, first power OFF the MCU, then power back ON whist simultaneously holding down the Ch1 AND Ch2 SELECT buttons … the display will then prompt you to select the control protocol to use: press the Ch 1. V-Pot to select Mackie Control.
As long as FCP is configured the same should be fine.

May 17, 2012 at 5:25 pmOk, will try and give this a shot Neil but the fact that in works in SoundPro, doesn’t that mean the protocol is correct?

Not exactly as FCP supports Mackie and Euphonix modes but Soundtrack supports Mackie and Logic modes.
So for example if you are set to Logic mode it will work in Soundtrack but not FCP.
Mackie is the only mode compatible to both.

May 18, 2012 at 1:12 amOk, that fixed it!!. I guess I must of somehow switch protocols on the Mackie Control Surface. This was very helpful.
I have another question Neil that I will send you this weekend as I am new to F/C (my bkg is more music production).
Appreciate the help

September 16, 2013 at 12:27 amHi Neil
Not sure why but my MCU no longer shows any of the LEDs during play/rewind etc. I can use the MCU to control the audio but the MCU displays are blank now?
