    Hi ALL,

Just want to discuss the performance of my machine and want to know what I need to make it more efficient

    PC Config
    ———
    quad core 6600
    3 g Ram
HD1- 500 G (C: drive) root directory where Adobe premeire pro is set up
    HD2- 160 G (Both 7200 rpm) (I: drive)
    video card – eah 4650 512 mb
32 bit window vista home premium sp1

    Editing Software
    —————-
    Premeire pro 2.0

    Set up
    ——-
Scratch disk is set up in – > I : drive ( second drive)

Capture video , Previews,Project are all set “As Project” in I: drive

But Media cache database in C: drive (root directory)

    Effects Added to footage
    ————————
    Luma correction
    Matte letter box
    Titles
    Transitions

    Now the real part

    Question
    ———

Rendering took 12-13 hours for 40 minutes of footage (FYI- I closed my antivirus – AVG and even Internet)

I really want to reduce it Plz Plz let me know what should I do ..Possible thoughts are

    1. Scratch disk should have 2 drive as RAID 0
    2. Media cache database should be in I: drive

or plz you expert people let me know what can I do ?

    Appreciate your help

I have the same Processor. Its very nice. But instead of 32 bit, I would switch up to 64 bit home premium vista. This way you can have up to 8 or 16 gb of memory depending on the board. Im using a Nvidia Geforce 260 896mb ddr3 Video card which is for gaming but has very good 3d rendering. The card is very big though around 13 inches i would say.

So, Basically, You can add more ram, but would need to have 64bit instead of 32 bit. Thats my advice!

WOW 12-13 hrs for 40 min?? have to be something wrong.
What’s the nature of your footage, DV or HD?
In my dual core, 1g ram it takes less than half hr (mini DV capture)

Set-up? Well I leave all in default. But if you have more ? email me
Remember, I edit in Mini DV; NOT HD

Since all currently available versions of PremPro (yes also CS4) are still 32-bit applications, they cannot use more than 3.5 GB of ram, irregardless of whether you OS is 32-bit or 64-bit. This is discussed in the following thread:
    https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/3/888092#888199

There it is also explained that a 64-bit OS will not make your Premiere per se run quicker, but adds an advantage when running multiple applications at the same time. So probably just changing to vista 64-bit will not help you unless you change some other elements of your configuration.

Adding raid, and cleverly dispersing your renders over different scratch disks will surely help speed things up. I assume you have already done the standard XP-tweaks concerning temp files and page-files not being on the system disk?

    good luck, ninetto
