Macbook Pro
Posted by Anthony Carnaxide on January 15, 2008 at 2:53 pmHi All,
I know on the AJA web site they recommend that you have a MBP Core2 Duo.
I have the first generation 17′ 2.16 Intel Core Duo 2 gig ram 200 7200 HD ATI Radeon X1600 Graphic card.
Will the AJA IO HD work on my laptop?
Thanks

January 15, 2008 at 4:33 pmAre you planning to use camera native formats or are you converting to ProRes first?

January 15, 2008 at 5:17 pm720 MIGHT work, but 1080 is going to be a stretch. As long as you convert to ProRes first, you should be good, but if you try and use DVCPro HD or XDCam (or whatever the Sony camera shoots) natively, the laptop won’t be able to transcode to ProRes on the fly. I would suggest going with the minimum config that AJA suggests just to be safe.

January 15, 2008 at 8:22 pmI have the minimum MacBook Pro (15”, 2.33, 3GB) and I work in ProRes (not HQ) 1080i25.
(I have Sata Raids via a express card)
I’m now seriously considering getting a MacPro 8 core. And when I tried ProRes HQ I almost had to render everything.
I don’t know if the the old MacBookPro would work at all, but from my experience I doubt it. My MacBookPro just barely makes it.
I guess the only way to find out is to source a ioHD and try before you buy!Carsten
