Macbook has only USB. How can I capture footage?
Howdy. So I’ve got my Macbook and I’ve got my Sony HDC-HR1, but my Macbook has no Firewire input and my camera only has a USB port for it’s photo memory card.
Somehow, I’ve used this computer to edit footage from this camera, a couple years ago.
What I did before was I hooked my camera up to my external hard drive, which does have Firewire, and FCP read it through that. My old hard drive is long gone, and my new external drive doesn’t let me do that. Even though my camera recognizes the connection and says HDV out and iLink and all that jazz, the computer is unable to.
Does anyone know how in the world I can capture footage off my camera? Like how to make the computer recognize the camera through the external drive, or something? Thanks.

Is the ‘photo memory card’ removable?

Just a thought, you can get a Firewire to USB cable and hook up the camera straight to the Computer, FCP should see the camera.
I’m guessing that if I can do that with the EX-1, you should be able to do it too.

Oops, is not firewire is USB to mini-Usb.

Does FCP see it connected to USB as a drive in Log and Transfer?
