    want to clean off an external HDD (glyph tech 500gb)still new to macs so i am not sure how to do this right and not completely fubar the drive… recommendations or possibly the steps to do this would be most welcomed

    4gb ram

    By that, do you mean wipe it totally clean?

    get old off… leave it fresh for new stuff… if drag old to trash is it, cool… simple… just wanted to make sure i was being efficient and treating my drive in a pleasant manner

    If you want to wipe it clean, I would go to Apps-Utlities-Disk Utility. Then click the disk you want to wipe and click erase.
