MAC PRO QUAD for final cut 3

for Final Cut Studio 3 and Adobe After Effects CS4?Mac Pro 2.66 quad nehalem
8gigs ram
ati 4870 graphics cardI’m concerned about the rendering time.
Currently, I’m using a DELL PC intel quad core windows XP 32 bit.
Editing on Premier CS3. I tried editing video from
canon 5d mk2 and it crawls.I’m just wondering how editing 5d Mk2 video on a mac pro quad
will do.Thanks

October 29, 2009 at 9:26 pmAnd you don’t edit the native format that camera shoots. H.264 is NOT an editing codec. Convert it to ProRes and FCP will do fine. If you have CS4 and a Dell already, why not convert it to some nice format that CS4 works with?

So u can’t playback in real time?
Do I need to conert to another format before editing? What type o system do you guys use?I have cs3 for my pc. But if I move to mac I’ll upgrade to cs 4 and also get fc

H.264? Well, in QT, yes. On a timeline, no. Not in FCP, not in Avid…not sure about CS4. H.264 is a delivery codec, not designed for editing. Gotta convert.

FCP 7, Avid Media Composer 3.0.5 (going to Media Composer 4 soon). I don’t use footage from that camera, but I know you have to convert.

I’ll try to get at least 8gigs of RAM. I don’t know why
Apple limited the quad machine with so little memory slots.Maybe would be better to get the 8core…now i’m hearing that
early 2010 apple will have a 6 core mac pro. -
