    Hi Guys:

I am thinking of purchasing a Mac Pro 2.66 Ghz, and wanted to ask what video card you would reccomend. I was thinking of geting the ATI Radeon X1900 XT for an additional $350, the stock card is an NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT 256MB.

What will you be using the machine for? FCP alone doesn’t rely on the card. Motion does, but that is the only pro Apple app that does.

Or does Shake too? I dunno…

actually fcp does take advantage of the graphics card anyone saying other wise needs to research some more.
im not just talking basic wipesbut fcp does use the card and even if your not a mo graph person an editor can most def take advantage of cards especially in fcp
alot of nle s are moving towards more open gl , gpu on the card.

so go for the ati x1900 512 is way better
and the bandwith of the card is pretty close to the nvidia quadro

Can you provide a link? I replaced the stock 5200 card in my G5 with a 9800 pro and I saw no difference with FCP. Motion, yes…FCP…nada.

Here is some info from BareFeats about it

“Apple’s Mac Pro GRAPHICS page shows the X1900’s specs and performance so close to the $1650 Quadro FX 4500 and so far above the GeForce 7300 GT that the choice is a no-brainer for most consumers and professionals. (You will have to wait 3 to 5 weeks to get the X1900 XT. We didn’t want to wait that long so we ordered our Mac Pro with the GeForce 7300 GT.”
