  • Mac OSX crashes when firewire HDD & Sony Z1P connected

Posted by Philip Johns on July 30, 2007 at 6:56 am

    G’day guys,

Just wondering if anyone has experienced this? I’m connecting a Maxtor 250Gb firewire 400 HDD to my Mac dual G5 2Ghz and a sony Z1P video camera and my system crashes. Any ideas why this may be?

    Thanks,

    Phil

Try not looping things thru a device (connect each directly to a port) and make sure that the drives are formatted Mac OS Extended for starters.

Might try connecting just one at a time to see where the problem lies.

    Good advice…

Let me ask you this? Are you trying to capture from your camera to you firewire drive thru the same buss?

If so, I bet you are getting dropped frames. If you ARE capturing from the camera to a firewire drive, they need to be on separate busses. For about $35 – 50, you can purchase a firewire adapter card to put in you edit station that will solve this problem.
