Why does 4GB of RAM cost $1,200 from Mac and on average $400 from other retailers. Is there really that much added value in macs product.

Nope. No reason at all to buy RAM from Apple.
Just make sure you buy it from a source that promises compatibility with your particular Mac and guarantees that.

Because Apple only sells the highest quality ram, and I mean the BEST. I have seen numerous propels caused by 3rd party ram, as well as have seen numerous 3rd party ram chips going bad.
Never have I seen Apple ram have any problem.

I have seen Apple Memory go bad. Must have been a bad harvest season for that box.
I seriously don’t think they (Apple) pic up memory from some exotic importer. Most of the time I have found Crucial stickers on the RAM.
If your looking for when the best time to buy RAM, it would be in the spring, right after the spaghetti harvests. Thats when I understand the best computer RAM becomes available.
