    Hi

    i am newbe in editing HD video ,
    i have cannon HF10

    when i move the video m2ts from my cam to my computer
    (AMD 2.7 Athlon +Geforce8400 +2gb) .
    i try to edit the video with sony vegas 8 but its so hard , the video doesnt play good and i cannot edit it well

    i know that there are some utils that can extract the m2ts or somthing else so i will be able to work with it ????

    please help , i need to preper my kid party 🙂

    You can use gearshift by Vasst to convert them. You could also use Upshift by Vasst and NewBluefx to convert them. You could also place them all on the timeline and render them out to another format (such as cineform or Lagarith) and work with them that way.

    m2ts files are highly compressed and really tax the computer’s resources. You will definitely need to convert them if you have an older, underpowered system.

    The best would be uncompressed AVI, but that will eat up your hard drive space in no time! If you have a lot of hard drive space and your files are relatively small, then use that. If not, download Lagarith- it is free and convert them to that codec. Another option would be M2T files, which are HDV and can be found under MainConcept mpeg2 in the render as dialogue box. This will convert a highly compressed file to another highly compressed file which will suffer quality loss but if you are outputting to the web, it might be acceptable.

    i just installed the exe of lagarith
    but how can isee it ?
    juts use the gearshift ? , i didnt saw nothing

    It will be under “Video for Windows” (AVI).
