    Hello,
I just started using HDVsplit program – I like the fact that it time stamps the files. But I noticed that it created .M2T files. Before I have always captured my footage via 1394 and was getting AVI’s.
Am I loosing anything with M2T? I have Sony Z7U camera, and CS4 + Matrox RTX.2 PC. If I didn’t use HDVsplit what would be the best capturing practice to preserve the quality of HDV video (i.e. Composite / Component / 1394 / HDMI outputs)?
    Thank you!!!

How do the .m2t files work with RT.X2, are they realtime? If so, then there should be no issue continuing to use HDVsplit.

The RT.X2 has no HDMI input, so that leaves 1394 or Component capture. If doing any kind of greenscreen work, then use the Component input since this captures to the Matrox MPEG-2 I-Frame HD codec which defaults at 90Mbps and uses 4:2:2 color versus the 4:2:0 of native HDV. You will get better keying results, and possibly better color correction as well. The more robust codec could help with compositing also, but for typical editing, 1394 input will look good.
